Award Citation for the Joint Service Achievement Medal (Order Number 039-1 dated February 8, 2005)
SFC Robert John Shano distinguished himself by meritorious achievement in a combat zone as a member of Mobile Collection Team 6, Sector Control Point, Iraq Survey Group, Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2004 to January 2005.  He deployed on over 150 successful missions in support of the Iraq Survey Group, conducting over 60 high risk exploitations around Baghdad and the Iraq area of operations, protecting high value subject matter experts of the Iraq Survey Group.  Many of these missions were successfully planned and commanded entirely by SFC Shano.  He proved himself on several occasions when the Mobile Collection Team patrols were attacked with small arms fire or confronted by potential lethal situations, staying calm and composed throughout and commanding his vehicle and personnel with professionalism and composed authority.  He takes vast pride in his personal performance, his reliability, professionalism, and constant aspiration for excellence and was of incalculable value to the team and the Iraq Survey Group.  Through his distinctive accomplishments, SFC Shano reflected credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the Department of Defense.
